Doha 26th October 2013: The Doha Film Institute (DFI) has unveiled the format for Ajyal Youth Film Festival that will run from Nov 26-30 at the Cultural Village Katara.
DFI CEO Abdulaziz Al-Khater expressed his hope that the festival would encourage film enthusiasts of all ages in the country and the region.
The festival wants to bring generations together to discover, enjoy and discuss cinema. Young people at Ajyal will have a platform to express their views, learn from each other and unite in a celebration of film and creativity, according to Fatma Al Remaihi, director of Ajyal Youth Film Festival.
The festival will feature a Doha Film Experience section. The section aims at bringing together hundreds of young jurors across the world. It will include narrative and short film competition and display student films that have been shot in Qatar, or have been made by individuals of any nationality who live in the country at present. The young jurors will take part in workshops, and Q&A sessions with film talent. The jurors will award films that they feel most outstanding.
The festival will include a tribute to anime with a showcase of six films dedicated to the Japanese art. The screenings will be accomplished by various activities including the Otaku Exhibition celebrating the works of local and regional artists paying tribute to the anime culture.
The festival will also feature a set of nine Special Screenings, with films from Brazil, Canada, China, France, Mexico, Spain, Korea, US, UK and Qatar
There will be storytelling workshops, and performances from local youth and international talents on November 29 and 30.
