Doha 27th November 2013: Ajyal Youth Film Festival opened the red carpet yesterday evening.
Guests including Mahmoud Asfa, Maria Peters, Dave Schram, Stefan Collier, Maziar Miri, Nitin Sawhney, Rick Lens, Pascal Plisson, Jackson Moloiyan Saikong, Salome, Nasieku Saikong, Zahira Badi, Tareq al-Ali, Haya al-Shuaibi, Sultan al-Ali, Abdulnasser al-Zayer, Huda Hussain, Abdulrahman Alaqel, Ali al-Rayes, Shirin Neshat, Hadya Said, Ghazi Hussain, Noura Hassan, Salah al-Mulla, Saad Burshaid, Abdulla al-Mosallam, Abdulaziz Ahmed, Dana An Natsheh and Amal al-Muftah graced the red carpet.
Festivals such as Ajyal were very important for promoting the cultures of Qatar, said Dr Hamad bin Abdul Aziz al-Kuwari, HE the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage. Qatar was always looking to do something new and innovative, and the Ajyal festival with its focus on the youth was unique, he added. HE the minister also appreciated the organisers for being able to screen a wide selection of films.
The Festival builds on the DFI’s history of community-based programming and it invites generations to come together to discuss cinema through events that encourage creative interaction, stimulating a fun, collaborative environment where young people can express themselves. The five day event will conclude on Saturday.
